Surgery
Our hospital features a surgical suite including an operating room and an induction and recovery stall. The operating room environment is controlled by a separate ventilation system with access limited to personnel in surgical attire to minimize risk of infection. There is an adjustable equine surgical table that allows to properly position horses for surgery and minimize pressure on their muscles and nerves. The adjoining fully padded induction and recovery stall is monitored from platforms outside the stall where hospital personnel can observe and assist patient recovery.
Anesthesia is maintained via inhalation of anesthetic gas delivered through an endotracheal tube to provide safe, highly controlled anesthesia.
A partial list of the surgical procedures we commonly perform includes:
- Castrations
- Cryptorchid Castration
