Student Externs
LaSalle Equine Clinic offers two- to four-week externships for veterinary students between March 1st and September 1st. Our clinic is a general equine practice, providing primary care as well as referral work for local mixed animal practices. Our work schedule is comprised of 60% in hospital and 40% ambulatory cases.
We strive to offer a learning environment that allows students to experience a variety of cases, working closely with each of our doctors, and gaining valuable hands-on skills.
Our hospital consists of a 7,000sqft facility with exam rooms, a surgical suite and recovery stall, 4 indoor ICU stalls and an indoor round pen. We have numerous outdoor stalls, mare pens, and paddocks, as well as an indoor isolation stall and an outdoor isolation pen. We offer digital radiographs, digital ultrasound, gastroscopy, dynamic endoscopy, emergency medicine, lameness, medicine, surgery, routine reproductive services, and preventative medicine. We are primarily an equine facility but we also offer livestock services that gives students the option to experience cases involving cattle, sheep, goats, camelids, and occasionally swine.
We are located 15 miles from beautiful Glacier National Park, in Northwest Montana. Students live on-site in a ’23 travel trailer during their stay and get Sundays off to explore the area. General health insurance is required. Students may inquire about our externship program by contacting the office at (406) 257- 9399 or office@lasallevet.com.
